As a person with acne and acne scarring, I have positioned myself in the anti-face glitter camp for a very long time as it tends to settle into pores and highlight all of the marks I wish to hide. Now, freshly 25 and way past my glittery prime, I have found Nars Cream Blush in Cactus Flower, a gorgeous poppy colored concoction that goes on as a cream and somehow (magic?) transforms into a velvety, translucent powder with just a hint of sparkle that is perfect to be worn alone or layered under more blush for a longer lasting, more dramatic look. And what’s more, the shimmer is so subtle that it is a perfect way to introduce glitter into your life if you too have spent your time afraid of being a shiny star.

L’Paige’s Blue Aloe Vera lipstick has been sitting in my makeup bag for over a year. The top of the container has cracked off and it is more weapon than makeup at this point, which has broadened its allure to me (along with checking out it’s VERY dated webpage which is so 1990’s Florida beauty parlor in a VERY good way), so I decided to pull it out again this past weekend.
This “blue” lipstick, when applied, reacts with your body’s chemistry to change color, ranging from deep pink to burgundy. On me it becomes this sort of perfect fuchsia pink that I like to dab on my cheeks and lips. The color lasts forever and because it is made with aloe, application is smooth and your lips remain moisturized throughout the day. At $7.00, it is completely worth it, so go forth, buy, and use your beauty as your weapon.
I have very long lashes, so long that when I worked in retail, I was routinely stopped and questioned “Are you wearing false lashes?” and “Do you know how long your lashes are??” (Yes, they are on my face; I grew them myself.) But as long as they are, they are very sparse from picking them out when stressed and very straight so I always go for something that boasts amazing volumizing power and Buxom Lash Mascara really works. The brush is hourglass shaped to cover every lash with a thick coat and does not clump, smudge, or flake. The kind of security that comes with knowing that you look like you have the longest and thickest lashes in the world (very important) is totally worth being asked if you have false lashes every time you step out in public; trust me, it will happen.

I don’t ask for much; all I want is a Diet Coke every day and to be wearing black cat-eye liner up until the second I die, so when Benefit discontinued their cake eyeliner, Babe Cake, that I pledged my allegiance to for four years, I felt personally offended and began searching for a suitable replacement.
My requirements were and remain as follows:
must
1. Be the blackest black
2. Contain no sparkles
3. Be in a cake
4. Stay on forever because I have this “thing” where I cry “a lot”
so it was easy to narrow it down quickly especially when I found that Illamasqua had a cake eyeliner. I love Illamasqua for a number of reasons; their makeup is made with film and theater in mind, so every product is highly pigmented with staying power that is out of this world and their minimalistic black packaging allows for the product to be the main focus-a tiny work of art in a dark frame.
This liner is so easy to put on, dries instantly and stays put with no fall out. Use an angle brush and mix a tiny bit of water (or spit if you’re a badass) and follow the curve of your eye, flicking it out a bit at the end and you will be ready for whatever life throws at you, even if you have a “thing” where you cry “a lot”.
